About Lesego Mavimbela's work:
Photo Theme:
The image is centered on our President, Cyril Ramaphosa, standing at a podium and addressing an audience at a formal event. Behind him are flags from various countries, setting a tone of unity and global presence. The moment captured commemorates 30 years since the establishment of the Constitutional Hill Court — a powerful reminder of South Africa’s journey through democracy, justice, and transformation.
Photo Story:
I was inspired by the history. It’s not every day that you get to witness, and capture the President of your country speaking at an event that holds so much meaning. As a young photographer, I knew this was bigger than just a photo… it was a way to freeze a piece of South Africa’s legacy.

Being in that room and seeing how the event brought together people from different countries and backgrounds reminded me how powerful one image can be. It pushed me to be present, focused, and intentional — and that’s why I took the shot.
How long has Lesego Mavimbela loved photography:
I've loved photography since Grade 6, in 2019. I then started taking pictures more seriously and realized how much I enjoyed capturing moments. Over time, that love just grew into something I can’t imagine living without.
How they discovered their passion for photography:
I discovered my passion for photography in 2019, during Grade 6. I used to take pictures of plants with my Mom's iPhone 7, especially close-up macro shots. Then me and my friend would compete to see who could take the best photos — who had the sharpest, cleanest shot. That playful competition made me realize how much I enjoyed capturing the little details.

From there, it just grew. I became the one everyone called at family gatherings to take pictures — and I actually loved being that person. That’s when I knew photography wasn’t just something I liked… it was something I loved.

Now, it’s something I’m fully passionate about. I want to grow in it, keep getting better, and push myself creatively. Sometimes I even overshoot — not because I have to, but because I just love it that much.
