About Danette Van Zyl's work:
Photo Theme:
Still life
Photo Story:
This is a photo taken by me in the year of 2025
The Small Crossing:
In a narrow stream somewhere in Germany, where stone walls guide the water and time moves slower than the current, a small boat drifts with quiet determination. It is not seaworthy, not brave by design, yet it carries a sail stitched with care and hope rather than skill.
Perhaps it was built by hands too small to understand distance, or by someone old enough to know that journeys do not need destinations to matter. The stream accepts it without question, lifting it gently, allowing it to lean, to wobble, to learn balance.
The water murmurs stories older than borders. It has seen kingdoms rise and names change, yet it treats this fragile vessel as it treats everything else—with patience. Sunlight flickers across the sail like a blessing that will not last forever.
The boat does not know where it is going. It only knows forward.
And maybe that is enough. Maybe the truest journeys are not measured by how far we travel, but by the courage it takes to be set free, even on waters that seem too small to matter.
How long has Danette Van Zyl loved photography:
Photography have been a passion and a dream of mine since I was a little girl and so Photography became a job profession with 2 years of studying Photography at potchefstroom Academy.
How they discovered their passion for photography:
I would say my creativity and my boldness in helping others feel seen and creating special experiences and moments.
