This slice of time is a moment of becoming. Taken on the day of his solar return, it captures a personal new year not as a spectacle but as stillness. There’s an infinite quiet tension between the earth & the sky, in composition and colour. Shooting on film is always a labour of love, the light leaks, scratches & grain capture space & time in a manner that is endearingly human. Compositionally the figure becomes a point of calm in abundance, with soft flowers scattered around. The blade of grass in the foreground, perfectly splitting the image. There’s a sense of multiplicity, many moments, many thoughts, many selves, all co-existing. The open sky representing expansiveness whilst the grounded posture holds everything in balance. Perhaps on your birthday, and any other day, the only thing stopping you from being truly yourself is what you haven’t let go of. And all it takes to truly be free is a deep breath, that grounds you in the enchantment of now.

How they discovered their passion for photography:

I’ve always loved moments, at first I just chalked it up to being deeply sentimental. A picture is a sliver of time, immortalising the moment. Over the years I realised I’m compelled towards the beauty of a well balanced image. It’s really an intuitive process.
