About Gao's work:
Photo Theme:
Where the Earth meets Imagination
Photo Story:
This was my first major creative photography project at a time when I was still learning how to fully trust my eye and my ideas.

The client came to me with a strong sense of identity. She wasn’t just interested in “taking pictures”; she was intentional about creating a look that expressed who she is. Every detail mattered to her; her accessories, her hair, the way she styled herself. There was a quiet confidence in how she carried her creativity, even before we picked up the camera.

We chose an open mountain field for the shoot because it felt honest and expansive. There were no walls, no studio constraints, just wind, light, and space to create. It felt like the kind of environment where something unplanned but meaningful could happen.

She wore a long white dress, almost bridal in its presence, but not bound to the idea of a wedding. In that space, it became something else entirely.less about tradition and more about becoming. The white fabric moved with the wind, soft against the raw landscape, creating a contrast between delicacy and strength.

As I photographed her, I realised this shoot was not just about capturing a subject in nature instead it was about witnessing a moment of alignment. A woman fully stepping into her own expression, and me, as a creative, beginning to understand what it means to tell stories through images rather than just take photos.

Looking back, this image represents a beginning on both sides. It holds the memory of a first creative risk, a first collaboration that felt bigger than execution, and the beginning of learning how to see people not just as subjects, but as stories unfolding in real time.
How long has Gao loved photography:
For 8 years now
How they discovered their passion for photography:
At first I was just a friend always behind the lens taking pictures of Sunday best outfits in varsity. Then the interest of photography grew later in 2018 leading to saving up to buy my first DSLR. After getting the camera, my developed into mastering the manual settings and not working with the auto settings
