About Christoph du Preez's work:
Photo Theme:
Curiosity
Photo Story:
I watched the family of 3 from quite a distance, and the little girl at the back kept looking around. She obviously could not see in front of her. It was her curios expression that got me... It's ironic. Even though the dad and the girl at the front can see everything coming ahead, have a bigger world view, they only look forward. They don't look around. This revealed to me, that if you are no longer trying to foresee the future, you're free to be present in the moment, enabling curiosity.
How long has Christoph du Preez loved photography:
For the last 6 Years.
How they discovered their passion for photography:
When i was younger I wanted to become a fine artist, but i got commissioned to take sports photos. For the first time i picked up a camera and figured it out on the job, it was very satisfying figuring out all of the settings and what they do. In the heat of trying to capture the fast paced sports moments I made happy mistakes, such as getting an image with just the right amount of motion blur in the background while keeping the subject in focus. I very quickly understood that a camera, as technical as it can be, can be used to create conceptual art too not just capturing a moment in time. I was hooked!
