The inspiration behind this photograph was simple: to capture the beauty of someone I deeply love and appreciate. Rather than creating a carefully planned portrait, I wanted to preserve a genuine, unguarded moment during a picnic we shared. The photograph was taken spontaneously, allowing her natural expression and presence to shine through. To me, the image is more than a portrait. To me it is a reflection of love, admiration, and the beauty found in ordinary moments. It serves as a reminder that some of the most meaningful photographs are created not through perfection, but through authenticity and genuine human connection.

How long has Lereko Makgate loved photography:

I have loved photography for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was always drawn to capturing moments with my friends, family, and even myself. I remember in highschool going on tours and outings and just taking pictures with my friends. Photography became a way for me to document my life, preserve memories, and express who I was at different stages of my journey.

How they discovered their passion for photography:

One of my favourite childhood memories is dressing up and creating my own photoshoots, pretending I was a model featured in Vogue. I loved every part of the step, just choosing outfits, posing in front of the camera and imagining the stories each photograph could tell. Those moments sparked a passion that has stayed with me ever since. Today, photography is still about capturing authentic moments and finding beauty in everyday life. In my first year of university my mother gifted me with an older camera which is the camera I still use today. And further down my journey I'm still loving it with a growing passion.
