Curiosity in the Wild

Photo Story:

Some of my favourite wildlife encounters are the ones that make you forget you’re looking at one of Africa’s largest animals.

While photographing in Mana Pools, I spotted a young elephant hiding behind a massive tree. At first, all I could see was the top of its head and one curious eye peeking around the trunk. Then, every few seconds, it would stretch its trunk between the branches and around the side of the tree, almost as if it was trying to see what we were doing without giving away its hiding place.

It was impossible not to smile. Watching such a powerful animal behave with the curiosity and playfulness of a child was a reminder that elephants are far more than their size, they’re intelligent, inquisitive, and full of personality.

Moments like this can’t be planned. They can’t be rushed. They simply happen when you spend enough time in the wild, quietly observing and letting nature tell its own story.
