About Gabriella de sousa's work:
Photo Theme:
The goalkeeper
Photo Story:
Most people watch a soccer match with their eyes fixed on the ball, waiting for the next goal, the next celebration, the next moment that gets the loudest applause.
I chose to sit behind the goal.
From there, I did not just see a goalkeeper. I saw a young player carrying a different kind of responsibility.
Ninety minutes where one mistake can erase the hard work of an entire team. Ninety minutes of standing alone, where every save is expected, but every goal conceded is remembered. It is a position that demands courage long before it demands talent.
As I watched him prepare to kick the ball, I noticed something beautiful. His eyes were not on the crowd. They were not searching for praise. They were focused on the game ahead, trusting his ability and believing in himself.
In that split second, the flying dust, the outstretched arms, and the powerful swing of his leg became more than just a soccer photo. It became a reminder of what sport is really about.
Hope.
Determination.
The courage to keep going even when you are the last line of defence.
The words across his back, "Dream Big Kid," could not have been more fitting. Because dreams are not built in moments of glory. They are built in moments like this, when nobody is cheering, when the work goes unnoticed, when all you have is belief in yourself.
This image is not just about a goalkeeper kicking a ball.
It is about every young athlete who dares to dream beyond the field that they are standing on.
It is about resilience.
It is about believing that one ordinary moment can become the beginning of an extraordinary journey.
Sometimes the best stories are not found where everyone is looking.
Sometimes... they are found behind the goal.
