About Henry van der Riet's work:
Photo Theme:
The photo is a full frame close up of a Female Giant Kingfisher
Photo Story:
I have been searching for an opportunity to photograph this specific bird perched and surveying the waters below for the past year and have always lucked out, and this past weekend we quickly popped into Rietvlei Nature Reserve not expecting much, and we were blessed with a few minutes of observing this beautiful bird watching the flowing waters and surveying for her next bite. I tried to capture that deep and almost X-ray stare that the Kingfisher gives when surveying the waters below, accompanied with the beautiful soft rays of the late afternoon sun.
How long has Henry van der Riet loved photography:
I have lover photography probably since I was 10/12 when I started to enjoy nature photography as it allowed me to experience wild places through other photographers lenses
How they discovered their passion for photography:
I initially bought my first camera as a means for ID of birds after field adventures, and soos before I even knew it I became obsessed with capturing the moment better anf capturing the animals in their natural settings and conveying that through my pictures
