About De Wet van Sittert 's work:

Photo Theme:

Bird photography

Photo Story:

I have always been fascinated by kingfishers, especially the tiny Malachite Kingfisher with its incredible colours. Photographing such a small and fast-moving bird is always a challenge. I waited for the right moment when this individual settled on a reed, surrounded by the soft green colours of its natural habitat. What caught my attention was the contrast between the brilliant blue and orange plumage and the beautifully smooth green background. For me, this photograph captures why I love bird photography — a small, easily missed moment in nature can become something extraordinary when you stop and really look.

How long has De Wet van Sittert loved photography:

I have loved photography since I was 13 years old, so for more than 20 years. What started as a childhood interest has grown into a lifelong passion. Over the years, my photography has developed alongside my love for wildlife, and I am still constantly learning and looking for that next special moment to capture

How they discovered their passion for photography:

I discovered my passion for photography when I was 13 years old. I was already fascinated by wildlife and nature, and photography gave me a way to capture the animals, birds and moments I experienced. As I grew older, that interest became much more serious. I began paying closer attention to animal behaviour, light, composition and the patience needed to get the photograph I had imagined. More than 20 years later, I still get the same excitement when everything comes together and I capture a special moment in the wild.
