About Duan Coetzee 's work:
Photo Theme:
Wildlife conservation
Photo Story:
In a small area called "Danabaai" situated in the Western Cape near mosselbay, these Cape Bushbuck rome around freely but cautiously between the houses. They live in the unoccupied pieces of land where the fynbos grows. One of these small pieces of land is right next to my in-laws house, and every time we visit them we are also blessed with a visit from the "Bambi" family as my son calls them. It's always a beautiful experience, but the sad part is that more people are buying the land to build expensive houses, leaving these beautiful animals with less food and less space to live. Some of them have been killed by cars while crossing the road because people don't respect the rules. I wanted to get as close as possible to take a stunning detailed photo of the young Bushbuck to show people that it's not "just another buck" visiting, but a life that matters and an experience that could last for generations to come if we work together to maintain a healthy relationship with, and respect for these beautiful animals. So I crawled slowly towards "Bambi" and took this photo while hiding behind the fynbos.
How long has Duan Coetzee loved photography:
Since I was a young boy (about 22 years ago)
How they discovered their passion for photography:
It was when I was 13 and my uncle bought his first DSLR camera which he let me use occasionally. I just fell in love with the concept of sharing your experiences with others through a photograph. Now whenever we travel or watch live sports, I'm the camera man. I volunteer to take photos for sports teams for free so that the less fortunate kids can also share their experience with others. My parents couldn't afford to buy my sports photos when I was a kid, so I want to make a difference for the less fortunate kids with my camera. Now my passion is to make a difference for others with the photos I take.
